0-5k Graduation June 2017

We had cause for a celebration this week, when our latest group of 0-5k runners completed their 5k run to graduate.  Considering they did it on the hottest June day for 40 years, they did particularly well!

Newent Runners 0-5k Graduation June 2016
Our latest group of graduates

There was a great turnout of club members to run with the group and cheer them on, then we all retreated to the shade of the Sports Bar afterwards for a well deserved cold drink and celebration, plus of course one of Liza’s delicious cakes!

Helen and Kerry

Many thanks to Helen and Kerry, who did a fantastic job of running this course – despite a broken ankle immediately before it started!!  Thanks also go to all the mentors who helped out on sessions and homework runs, and all the club members involved.  Click on the pictures below to see more – I couldn’t get shots of you all receiving your certificates as you’re just too fast already!!

Sunday Socials

2017 brings you two options for Sunday Socials – Classic or Trail!

Clive is back to lead the Classics!  Meeting every Sunday from 8th January, at 8:30 am at Newent lake for around 70 minutes of gentle jogging in a non coached session, routes often have options to do shorter distances if needed.   Everybody welcome. We will post runs for the first 3 months over the next week, and are planning for one run a month to go “on tour” to different places to keep it fresh – May hill, Robinswood, Cirencester etc. Details will be posted once we have them.

New for this year are Sunday Social Trail Runs, meeting at 8:30 am at Newent Community School.  Led by Chris, these will be social runs so a conversational pace – trail shoes, and drink are essential, there is likely to be mud!  Details of the runs will be posted on the Facebook group – Sunday 15th January will be a May Hill run, 8-9 miles on challenging terrain.

If you have any questions, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.  Please note that Wednesday is the only coached session. All other events are informal social runs (often led by a qualified leader, but not always) and, as such, you participate at your own risk.
